Sardis is one of the busiest parts of Chilliwack for us. Between the older family homes off Vedder Road, the newer builds around Garrison Village, and everything in between, we’re painting here almost every week. Every neighbourhood has its quirks, and Sardis is no different. Here’s what I’d want a Sardis homeowner to know before booking a paint job, inside or out.
What Sardis Homes Have in Common
Most of the houses we paint in Sardis fall into two groups. There are the older ranchers and split-levels from the 1970s through the 1990s, often with wood or cedar siding, original trim, and a few layers of paint already on them. Then there are the newer homes, mostly from the last 20 years, with fibre cement or vinyl siding, builder-grade interior paint, and lots of open-concept space.
The older homes usually need more prep. We spend real time scraping, sanding, and priming bare wood before any topcoat goes on. The newer homes are usually in decent shape outside, but the builder-grade flat paint inside scuffs easily, and owners want something they can actually wipe clean.
How Our Weather Affects Your Paint
Sardis sits close to the Vedder River and the mountains, and we get plenty of rain from October through spring. That moisture is hard on exterior paint, especially on north-facing walls, under deep eaves, and anywhere shaded by big trees. That’s where we see mildew, moss on trim, and paint peeling from wood that never quite dries out.
A good exterior job here starts with washing, letting the siding dry properly, fixing any soft wood, and priming bare spots. Timing matters too. Exterior painting works best in the drier months, roughly late spring to early fall. Our guide on when to paint a house exterior in Chilliwack explains the temperature and moisture rules we follow.
The good news is that fall and winter are a great time for interior work. If your walls need attention, you don’t have to wait for summer.

Popular Projects We See in Sardis
- Updating builder-grade interiors. Swapping flat paint for a durable, washable finish in busy family homes.
- Popcorn ceiling removal. Very common in the older split-levels and ranchers.
- Kitchen cabinet refinishing. A big change for a lot less than new cabinets.
- Exterior repaints on older wood siding. Usually with extra prep and priming to deal with weathered boards.
- Pre-sale painting. Sardis homes sell well, and fresh paint helps. Our post on painting your house before selling covers what’s worth doing.
On most interior jobs we use Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint. It covers well, holds up to kids and pets, and touches up cleanly years later.
Choosing a Painter in Sardis
Ask for a written quote that spells out the prep, the number of coats, and the paint being used. Make sure the company is insured and WCB covered, and ask what kind of warranty they offer. We back every job with our 3-year warranty, and we’ve been painting homes in the Fraser Valley for more than 25 years.

FAQ: House Painting in Sardis
Is pricing different in Sardis than the rest of Chilliwack?
No. Sardis is part of our home base in Chilliwack, and we use the same pricing across the city.
When is the best time to paint a house exterior in Sardis?
Late spring through early fall, when it’s dry and temperatures are steady. Fall and winter are better for interior painting.
How much does it cost to paint the inside of a house in Sardis?
Interior walls run about $2 per square foot, and a full package with walls, ceilings, doors and trim is $5 to $6 per square foot. All prices are plus 5% GST.
Why is the paint peeling on the north side of my house?
Usually moisture. North-facing and shaded walls stay damp longer in our climate. Proper washing, drying, priming bare wood, and a quality exterior paint make a big difference.
