Repairing Popcorn Ceiling Texture
Water damage? Moved light fixtures? Right in the middle of your popcorn ceiling!
There are seemingly countless numbers of textured ceilings out there, and if you have had some kind of damage to your popcorn or textured ceiling, you may be scratching your head, wondering if it’s possible to fix it to look like it was before.
Well, the good news is that we rarely see a texture that we can’t match to 95% accuracy. However, it is not easy, and many homeowners have called us after they tried to fix the problem themselves.
Many of the large home improvement chains offer products that claim you can fix it with ease with their convenient spray cans. Truth be told, this is a waste of 30 dollars, as you will not be satisfied with the finish. It will not even come close to a professional popcorn ceiling finish.
Weiler Painting has professional texture spray machines that will give you the best chance of blending that unsightly patch with the rest of your ceiling texture.
Now, if you have come to the decision that you want a professional to come in and fix your ceiling, there are a few things you can do to save you some money. First, before we arrive, make a plastic curtain around the area you want patched approx. 3 or more feet past the bare patch. 2nd, if you are handy with drywall mud and drywall has been removed from the ceiling, you can reinstall the drywall and use drywall and tape to patch the seams.
We usually have to apply another coat of drywall mud ourselves to get the patch perfect for texture spray. Most modern textures are very light and will not hide any imperfections in the drywall, so proper prep is vital.
Once we have spray texture on the ceiling patch, the entire area will need to be painted in order to look right, as the new sprayed texture is always a different shade of white than the existing texture. Painting yourself can also save you some money and keep the cost of repair down.
Please give us a call if you have any questions, and feel free to send us some pics of your ceiling if you want a price or 2nd opinion.
